Egg Shortage
‘The authorities will tell us that there is no shortage or - that it is only seasonal, but the fact remains that many large poultry runs have recently been- sold,” said the president (Dr. W. Gordon Rich) in commenting on the shortage of eggs, when speaking to the annual report of the South Island Tuberculosis Association. Eggs were an important part of diet, said Dr. Rich. He had been told that an area which had once been occupied by neat poultry runs now appeared as if it had been hit by an atomic bomb. He had discussed the shortage of eggs with an authority on tuberculosis, who had agreed that the problem was serious. In a country such as New Zealand, it was ridiculous that such a problem has arisen, Dr. Rich said.
