WAINUI NEWS
RESIDENTS FAREWELLED MR AND MRS T. W. BURKE The school at Wainui was the scene of a farewell to Mr and Mrs T. W. Burke, who are going to live in Whakatane. The guests have made many friends while farming at Wainui, and will be greatly missed by all, although they will be going to and fro to the farm quite frequently.
Mr and Mrs Burke’s sons and their families will be carrying on the farming at Wainui. Music for the evening was supplied by Mr and Mrs M. W. King, Waimana, and Mr Harry White made a capable M.C. After supper Mrs Burke obliged with an enjoyable extra. The two Monte ‘ Carlo waltzes were won by Mr Roy Sax and Miss Robinson. During the evening, Mr C. White expressed the feelings of Mr and Mrs Burke’s many friends in wishing them the best of luck and good health for many years to come. He asked them to come forward and accept a dinner set and tea waggon from all.
Mr White said it was with great regret that they said farewell to Mr and Mrs Burke, but one good thing was that they were not going far away.
Mr Burke in replying, thanked one and all for the pleasant evening tendered them and for the magnificent gifts, all being very much appreciated. On behalf of Mrs Burke he extended a cordial invitation to all to come and visit them in Whakatane, when they were settled. Dancing continued and Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem closed the evening.
