A Well Named Juvenile The two year old filly by Battle Song—Pay Roll has been named Gratuity. A Big Offer Declined It is reported that the Otago owner of the trotter, Dillon Hall, has refused an offer of 5000 guineas for him. To Ride in Australia H. N. Wiggins left for Australia on Saturday on a six week’s visit. Some of his riding will be at Brisbane and country centres. He is likely to find the Australian courses in more firm condition than those in New Zealand, and this will suit him admirably. The Leading Trainers J. G. Farrell, of Hawera, leads the list of winning trainers for the season 1946/47, with W. E. Haslett, of Invercargill, the runner-up. First on the List The first of the Auckland country club meetings to be held this season is that of the Thames Jockey Club on September 20. The prize money will be increased in keeping with the times, and good fields throughout are practically assured. Bound For Australia The ’Wellington owned galloper Fellowship and Ultimate, are to be shipped to Australia shortly in view of spring racing. Exit Selected The Wanganui filly Selected has had to be destroyed on account of injuries sustained while racing at Trentham. Increased Prize Money The Auckland 1948 Easter Handicap will be a very rich mile event the prize money allotted being £SOOO. A Double Winner Boswell Hill, winner of a double at Ellerslie, big dividends being returned to backers, is owned and raced by Mr W. R. Spattock, of Hamilton, who secured him as a yearling -for the hack price of £2O. From the outset he had a good opinion of his wellbred equine, and ex* ercised well justified patience in bringing him to winning condition.
