WOMEN’S DIVISION
AWAKERI BRANCH EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY A delightful evening was held in the Awakeri Hall on July 15 to mark the occasion of the eighteenth birthday of the Awakeri Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. In the absence of the president, Mrs Haultain, Mrs Roberts presided, and opened up the evening with the reciting of the Creed, also extending a hearty welcome to the 68 guests present. Telegrams with birthday greetings were received from Mrs E. Haultain (president) and Mrs Nr Carter (vice-president) who were both delegates to the W.D. Conference in Wellington, also from Mrs C. Wilson (secretary) who was on holiday in Auckland.
The evening was spent with items, games, competitions and dancing, music being supplied by Mrs K. Hughes and Mr Anderson.
Items were given by: Mrs Hughes (piano solo); Mrs Hepburn Jnr. (elocution); Mrs Honeycombe (songs). Competition winners were: Musical Quiz: Awakeri, Purse competition: Mrs Fletcher. Musical* ball game: Mrs Checkley (Thornton). Other competitions were won by Miss Woolfield (dinner); Mrs Steele (sponge cake); Mrs Sheat (fruit cake); Miss J. Haultain (tea cosy); Master V. Butler (number of maize seeds in bottle). Winners of the monthly competitions were:— Flower: Mrs Rust 1, Mrs D. Mcl Donald 2, Mrs Roberts 3. Fruit: Mrs Rust 1, Mrs N. McDonald 2, Mrs D. McDonald 3. Vegetable: Mrs McKenzie 1, Mrs Fabish 2, Mrs Rust 3. A dainty supper was served and the happy evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. TE TEKO BRANCH JULY MEETING In the absence of the president, Mrs Thomas, the July meeting of the Te Teko Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was presided over by Mrs R. Harty who opened the meeting with the reading of the Creed. The minutes of the June meeting were discussed and passed. A report of the catering done for the Dog Trial Club was made by. the secretary, Mrs Cannell, and matters arising from the report were fully discussed.
Remits for the-forthcoming conference were than read and voted upon. Members' were reminded of the special effort to be made at the August meeting and a full attendance, complete with generous contributions to the bring and buy stall, was urged.
Mesdames Balfour and Watson were presented with birthday flowers by Mrs Hutton.
Mrs J. Jamieson was the winner of the mystery parcel which as usual contained an amazing shilling’s worth.
The prize winners were:— Melon jam: Mrs Butler, Jnr. 1, Mrs J. Pryor 2. Best bloom: Mrs A. Jamieson 1, Mrs R. Harty 2.
Afternoon tea served by Mrs and Miss Linsell concluded a very pleasant afternoon.
