WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
EDGECUMBE BRANCH , JULY MEETING
The July meeting of the Edge- < cumbe Women’s Institute was held in the Presbyterian Hall. Mrs Malpas presided over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with the - singing of the Ode to Friendship . and all present repeated the Aspirations. ' » !'*►' The secretary then read the minutes and a small amount of correspondence was dealt with. Several apologies were received and , one new member was enrolled and wel- . corned. Mrs Watson agreed to being Drama convenor for the Institute. The draw for officers for member’s day resulted in Mrs Spiers being - -chosen as president, and Mrs Pearse . Jnr. as secretary. Two pupils from the Edgecumbe - School gave very interesting talks. . Jimmy Anderson spoke about the “Great Barrier Reef” and Raeon Williams chose “Rice” as her subject. Both children spoke well and had ajn interested and appreciative andience. Mrs H. Carter conducted a novel wall competition which was won by Mrs Burgess. Mrs Malpas presented three birthday posies dur-
ing afternoon tea, which was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Mexfed, Learning, Carter, Burgess and Miss Teasdale. Mrs Woollett agreed to be secretary for the remainder of the year. Several members displayed beautiful handwork they had done which was very much admired by all present.
A pleasant afternoon was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
