MONTY

Monty the modest man was raised, To the highest military peak, Distinction came to him maybe, Because he was the last to seek, Limelight, but it came to him, Because of his persistence grim, In making Freedom’s cause his own. When Britain had to stand alone, To face an overwhelming foe, • Then the Lord of Alamein did show, The grit that comes to Britain’s aid, When her foes threaten to invade. Monty had a way with him, That won the hearts of soldiers grim, No matter what their rank or station, Their General achieved a combination, That nothing mortal could resist, The will to doggedly persist, Until every mother’s soldier son, Could wear the honours dearly won, Knowing-that he had done his best, Victory from the foe to wrest. Monty never preached but prayed, For the Divine Spiritual aid, That was with him to the end, An ever present aid and friend, Is with him still, his aid and guide,On Glory’s often treacherous tide, The widow’s friend, his soldiers’ pride, A modest but thrice honoured guest, Assured of the eternal rest, When the final strife with death is won, His will be a well earned, well clone. Faithful servant tried and true, Enter the reward reserved for you. H. SERGANT.
