DAME HUMOUR

PETROL RATIONING SCARE The persistent rumour current yesterday throughout the Whakatane district that petrol rationing was about to be introduced again, led motorists from all corners of the compus to ‘fill ‘er up’ at short notice. Stations did a roaring trade and dishevelled attendants wondered if World War II was on them. ♦

Enquiries this morning have elicited the fact that the story was groundless and that no official intimation had been received by the local garages. Again all is quiet on the home front—too quiet for some garages we understand!
