WHAKATANE MEN’S CLUB WEEKEND DRAW The first qualifying round in the three grades of the Club Championship was played on Saturday. The leading scores were: Senior, K. Milne 78; A. G. Cradwick, W. D. Steele, J. N. Moore 80; S. C. Spence, A. Morpeth, A. Powdrell 82; N. Ducker, J. M. Bell 83. Intermediate: B. Alexander 86; L. B. Smith 87; W. Henderson 88. Junior: G. Gartshore 91; N. Reynolds 92; D. Murray, M. Canning 98. The second round will be played on August 16 and the third on August 23, the best two rounds to count. The best nett score in the two qualifying rounds selected will be awarded the Captain’s trophy. The best nett scores on Saturday’s round were: G. Gartshore 91—28—63; N. Reynolds 92—26—66; W. Steel 80— 12—68; K. Milne 78—9—69; N. Moore 80 —11—69. All of these players have earned reductions of handicap.
In the final of the Clarke Cup, B. Alexander defeated I. A. Wylds 2 and 1.
The fixtures for next Saturday are the second round of the Fortune and Founders’ Cups and Consolations; all of which will be played in four formation.
