MARCHING TEAMS
CENTRES TO BE FORMED BAY HEADQUARTERS ROTORUA News has been received that the N.Z. Marching Association executive will recommend at its annual conference to be held in Wellington on August 27 that provincial centres be formed. Already district associations have been incorporated into various centres, these allocations being subject to approval by the Dominion conference.
The Bay of Plenty Centre, in which Rotorua will be included, will also incorporate Thames, Whakatane, Tauranga, Te Puke and Opotiki. It has been agreed that the centre headquarters be in Rotorua. At a meeting of associations of the various districts which will be included in the new centre, it was agreed to support the recommendation of the N.Z. executive. Centre ■championships, it was disclosed, would be held prior to North Island and New Zealand championships and the winner of the centre competitions would represent its province at these championships. At the moment it had not been decided how many teams from each centre would be eligible. Mr N. E. McMillan, president of the Rotorua association acted aS chairman for the centre conference, which was held at Te Puke and Mr H. Montague was secretary. Miss N. Nairn represented the Rotorua Marching and Recreation Association. No officers for the new centre can be elected until the scheme has been approved by the N.Z. conference, at which the Rotorua association will be represented by Mr McMillan, Miss Nairn and Colonel G. O’Leary, resident delegate for the district.
The New Zealand marching championships will be held in Dunedin on February 22 next.
