With a knowledge of the acuteness of the housing shortage in Whakatane, I want to tell you, Mr Editor of a local incident which moved me very deeply. I had to find accommodation for two boarders somewhere in the town and was placed in a desperate situation in the process. The only person who came to my rescue was a woman who in spite of a full house, and two invalids to look after, cheerfully shouldered the extra burden and said to me smilingly: ‘lf I am ever in the same position of wanting a bed, I hope someone will do as much for me.’ It so took my breath away that I almost wept.
