State Housing Praised

“Never in my imagination did I visualise such a scheme as that undertaken by the State Housing Department in New Zealand,” stated Mr A. B. Black, a Queensland builder in Hamilton recently. For architectural beauty, variety of design and colour, plus numbers, New Zealand’s State houses left Queensland a long way behind.

“Red Tape” Shortage Not even Parliament Buildings are immune from the effects of the current wave of shortages in New Zealand, according to a report from. Wellington. The latest shortage, which may be claimed to be more psychological than serious in its effects, is lack of the traditional red tape. So short are stocks that even within the Prime Minister’s Department files have to be tied with green tape instead. The change represents a break in a tradition lasting almost since there was a Parliament in New Zealand.

Air Travel For M.P.s. Facilities have been made available to enable members of the House of Representatives and Legislative Council living at a distance outside Wellington to travel between the airport most convenient to their homes and Wellington during the present session of Parliament. Arrangements have also been made for limited air travel during the recess. By means of block booking well ahead and in view of the increased air services available, it is considered that the problem of obtaining passages on aircraft is unlikely to arise to any great extent. Bull Controls Road

A bull, which had escaped from an adjacent paddock, had complete control over a section of the Old Porix’ua Road, Wellington, recently. The few motorists using the road found that the bull did not want to be disturbed by passing cars. One motorist came around a corner to find a car approaching him quickly in reverse. When the owner received an urgent telephone call on the matter he remarked that the bull probably wanted to see if the cars had their new stickers on. The bull could not be persuaded to change his mind until the ranger arrived to drive him back to his padock.
