WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT TANEATUA ~ The July meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute was held at the hall on Tuesday, July 8. Mrs Grey presided. Members sang the Ode to Friendship and the Aspirations were read. A number of school exercise books were handed in for Corso. For the Corso Appeal in August members were asked to bring a tin of dripping. The Roll Call was “A Renovation Hint” and many worthwhile hints were given. An extract from Home and Country was read. Six members *took part in a debate the subject being “Should husbands accompany their wives on holiday.” Speakers were amusing and arguments logical. The affirmative team were adjudged the winners. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Gardner, Hayward and L. Anderson. Competitions were won as follows: Thrift article: Mrs K. Tebbutt 1, Mrs Grey 2. Two jars jam: Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Hayward 2. Best vegetable: Mrs K. Tebbutt 1, Mrs Grey 2. Best flower: Mrs Grey 1, Mrs A. Tebbutt 2.

The meeting then closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
