NO TRACE YET
KIDNAPPED SERGEANTS THREAT OF HANGING In spite of an intensive search the two British Army sergeants kidnapped in Nathanya as hostages for the lives of the three Jewish terrorists who are under sentence of death for their part in the Acre prison raid in May, have not yet been found. .1 “We mean business this time,” said the Irgun Zvai Leumi, in a letter sent to the Mayor of Nathanya after the kidnapping. It made a threat that unless the three Jews were reprieved' from the gallows the two British sergeants would be hanged. The letter said: “We shall hang them unless our prisoners of war receive a fair deal.”
The terrorists jumped from a car and chloroformed the two British sergeants and a Jewish civilian clerk as they were walking in the street. A bystander who saw the kidnapping said that between eight and 12 men took part and badly beat both sergeants. The civilian was found two hours later in an orange grove a few miles away. British troops have cordoned off and are searching Nathanya. Jewish sources said that the Haganah had joined in the search.
