MacCLEOD CLAN SUCCESSFUL EVENING The MacCleod Clan of the Young Caledonians held a very successful evening in the Caledonian Hall on Saturday. Numerous items by MacCleod members as well as visitors added variety to the programme.The evening commenced with the piping in of Chief Anderson of the Caledonian Society, Chief Colin Ranby of the MacLeods, Chief Bill Abbot of the Young Caledonians and Chief D. G. Croll of the Opotiki Society. Singing items were given by the MacLeods, “Granny’s Hielan’ Hame” “Mary Ma Scotch Blue Bell” and “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.” Miss Peggy Peagram of Opotiki, gave two solos, “Good Night, Sweet Dreams” and “Some Sunday Morning.” Don McKenzie and Russell Hirst played two pipe duets. Bill Morrissey of Opotiki sang a yodelling number and was recalled twice. His songs included a number about the Caledonian Society which he composed himself. He altered the words in several places to fit members of the Whakatane Society. A competition waltz was won by Mr Maynard Ramson and Miss Nora Watson. A competition foxtrot was won by Mr Bruce Thomas and Miss Betty Mole. • Mr M. Whittaker was M.C.
