BUILDING TIMBER
PLEA FOR PINUS INSIGNUS Writing the Borough Council last Monday eevning, Mr Stan Evans, builder, sought relaxation of the Borough Buildings By-laws in order to permit of the use of pinus insignus in the construction of houses within the Borough. He forwarded samples of. 6” flooring boards pointing out that providing this timber was kept off the ground it would outlast many of the timbers already recognised as suitable for building. Cr Warner declared that pinus was now recognised as superior to many of the 0.8. timbers in common use. He was backed in this contention by the Electrical Engineer, Mr F. W. Lysaght. The Mayor remarked he understood the timber was being widely used, and on his suggestion the matr ter was deferred for reference to Cr Sullivan and to the State Housing Department, pending a considered decision by the couneil.
