BREAD SUPPLY
SYSTEM CRITICISED “PRICE NOT EVERYTHING” Criticism of the present “month about” system by which two contractors supplied bread alternately month by month was contained in a letter received by the hospital board. One of the products was by far superior and it was suggested in the letter that arrangements be made for the continuous supply of this bread to the hospital. The chairman said that when tenders had originally been called those of the two contractors had been the same. The contracts had been verbally renewed in its present form from year to year. Mr McCready said that he understood no contracts had been entered into other than that for the supply of groceries. Sandwich Loaf Mr McCready said that the sandwich loaf was a “lazy man’s loaf.” He considered there was more waste on the cutting machine with this type than with other types. Mr Buddie moved that the matter be left in abeyance until September when tenders be called from all the local bakers for the supply of bread.
Mr McCready advocated getting the best product without overmuch consideration of the costs.
