OUTPATIENTS
SUGGESTED DEPARTMENT EXTRA STAFF REQUIRED That an outpatients department at the Whakatane Hospital would necessitate the employment of additional staff was stressed at the July meeting of the hospital board. An enquiry sent to the Waikato Hospital Board had resulted in an invitation for members of the Whakatane Board to inspect the department in existence there being sent. The chairman, Mr Mullins, considered that the board should avail themselves of the opportunity. They could obtain a thorough knowledge and store it for future reference. Dr. Dawson stated that such a department was actually , a consulting room. Patients could be either admitted to hospital or treated and sent home. Extra staff would be needed.
Mr Caulfield held the opinion that the time was not opportune for such a scheme. More staff and more buildings would be needed.
