WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MANAWAHE BRANCH % JULY MEETING The July meeting of the Manawahe Women’s Institute was held in the local hall recently. Mrs Bowden presided over -an average attendance of members who read the Aspirations in unison.

After the business and correspondence had been discussed, Mrs Reid gave the dressmaking thread, explaining in detail the making of buttonholes. Mrs Morice demonstrated lamp shade making—the finished * article being a very dainty piece of work.

The roll call “Knitting Hints” brought forth some useful ideas. Mrs M. Logan provided the month’s entertainment—a written brain teaser —which was won by Mrs Reid. . Competitions for the day were:—■

Best flower: Mrs Mikkelsen and Mrs Morice 1, Mrs Thompson and Miss Mikkelsen 2.

"Best shrub: Mrs M. Logan 1, Mrs King 2. , Best knitted article: Mrs Goldsmith 1, Mrs Reid 2. Artificial winter decoration: Mrs Appleby 1, Mrs G. Logan 2. Afternoon tea, served by Mesdames Reid and G. Logan, brought the afternoon to a close.
