WHAKATANE MEN’S CLUB Results of matches played last Saturday are as follows: — Clarke Cup: Alexander beat Powdrell; C. B. Wylds beat Pattison and plays I. A. Wylds in a semi-final, the winner playing Alexander in the final., Reynolds Cup: A. C. Anderson beat Murray, White beat Le Pine. The semi-final matches to be played at the first opportunity are: Anderson v Howat, Stone v White. The best score in a Four-Ball Best Ball Stableford were: C, B. Wylds and Pattison 45, L. B. Smith and Mussett 40, Ar P. Smith and I. A. Wylds, F. R. Combes and A. C. Anderson 37, L. E. Carter and R. Akel 36.
The fixture for next Saturday is the qualifying round for the Fortune Cup and the Founders’ Cup. The first sixteen net scores will qualify for the Fortune Cup and the next sixteen for the Founders’ Cup. Players will make up “threes” on arrival at the course and start as soon as possible. Qualifying rounds may be played in the morning. It must be remembered that those
who do play in the morning must count that round,- as the local rule states that there shall be no practice on the greens before playing qualifying rounds. In other words the first round counts. The President’s Trophy will be awarded for the best score. Weekend Tourney " > The Whakatane Club proposes' to hold a weekend tournament on July 19 and 20, the outstanding event being a 72-hole Gross Medal. There will also be a 72-hole Nett Medal, two 36-hole events and four 18-hole competitions. Intending competitors should make their entries at the clubhouse during the next two weekends. TE TEKO LADIES’ CLUB WEEKEND DRAW The July Medal will be played this week. The following is the draw:— . > • -

Smith and Mrs Hutton; Mrs Linsell and Mrs Caldwell; Mrs Hendle and Mrs Waldegrave; Mrs Burr and partner. Sunday: Mrs Russell and Mrs A. P. Smith; Mrs Thomas and Mrs Caldwell; Miss Cornish and Miss Linsell. Last Week’s Results Lastweek the fourball best-ball bogey had to be abandoned owing to rain. A. 10-hole Medal competition was played and resulted in a win for Mrs Thomas in the B grade an Mrs Burr in the C grade.
