MAORIS CHARGED
ON LICENSED PREMISES PUT OUT BACK DOOR Three Maoris, Tamati Faulkner, Harry Tokona and George Pierre, were charged in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday with being illegally on licensed premises. None of the defendants made an .appearance. Sergeant Farrell stated that the men in question had been arrested for being in the hotel during the hours it was closed. Mr H. L. Anderson, proprietor of the Matata Hotel, stated that on the night of May 2 he had been awakened by noises in the passage. He had found the three defendants. 'They wanted liquor which was refused and they put out the back door. After they had gone rocks were thrown on to the roof of the building, but this may not have been .done by them. Each of the defendants was fined £2 with Costs at 10s.
