OHOPE POOL
COUNTY COUNCIL’S VIEWS “DOMAIN BOARD MATTER” While members of the Whakatane County Council appreciate the value to Ohope Beach of the children’s “Learn-to-Swim Pool” the council found itself unable to support a request for a Government subsidy for improvements to the pool. The fmarice committee of the council had considered a letter which Mr F. Mahy, senr., has sent to various local bodies and organisations in the district requesting support for an application to the Minister of Internal Affairs, for a subsidy to reinstate the Children’s Learn-to-Swim Pool at Ohope. To put the pool in operation 500 ft. of 3in. pipe is needed to connect it with the Domain Board dam. Also a considerable amount of work on the pool itself is needed, cleaning, seating etc. Cash spent on pools, pipeline fittings, etc. amount to over £6OO, all donated. The council was requested to forward a supporting letter to be sent with application form for subsidy. The council adopted the recommendation of the finance committee that the applicant be advised his application should be referred to the Ohope Domain Board which is the controlling authority and that the council is unable to support the application.
