RUGBY LEAGUE

SATURDAY’S RESULTS Rugby League matches played on Saturday resulted as follows: Seniors Tuhoe beat Waiotahi 26-8. Ruatoki West beat Ruatoki North 14-8. Juniors Tuhoe won by default. TUHOE v WAIOTAHI Tuhoe attacked from the kick off and P. Hohua had a free kick but missed narrowly. Waiotahi had a good hunting pack and dominated the close play. The Waiotahi forwards were prominent on all occasions in loose rushes it was from a dribbling rush that the Blue backs took a' hand and M. Rua crossed near the corner flag. W. Rewia failed to convert. Tuhoe remained on the defensive for a period but quickly returned to the attack Black followed up and gave P. Hohua a splendid scoring chance of which he made the most. J. Rangitane had no difficulty in converting. Tuhoe 13, Waiotahi 0.

Waiotahi took a hand in succeeding play and W. Rewiri scored cleverly from some loose scrummaging. M. Rua failed with the kick. Tuhoe attacked but Waiotahi improved with the game, the forwards playing close and smothering Tuhoe best efforts. M. Tiopira at last broke clear and sent a line finder deep into Waiotahi half. The Blues returned again but after an exciting battle on the line P. Kruger relieved and J. Rangitane again carried a clear try. One after another Waiotahi clapped on the pace and some splendid forward work once more had the Blues guessing hard. Open football ensued in Tuhoe’s quarter. Waiotahi exerted great efforts to score and may be considered very unlucky in not doing so before the final whistle. Tuhoe 26, Waiotahi 8. Mr P. Taipeti was referee.
