ANNUAL MEETING HELD MORE LEARNERS WANTED To make good the loss-of four players who recently left the district the Whakatane Citizens Band hopes to train up more young men willing to learn to play band instruments. This was one of the points emphasised at the band’s annual meeting last week. Good work has been done in previous' years in making keen learners into capable bandsmen. Mr Ken Jarrett has offered to start a class for young players, and it is hoped there will be no lack of boys. Prizes in recognition of keenness by players during the year were presented as follows:—• ■ x Attendance prizes (Mr A. J. Canning’s prizes) to Alan Stewart and Murray Hunter. Best boy (Mr W. Jarrett’s prjze) to Colin Finucane. Most improved player (Mr Warren’s prize) to Brian Skelton. Officers for the year were ejected as follows: Patron, Mr F. B. Cutler; president, Mr A. J. Canning; vicepresidents, Messrs. C. A. Suckling, J. Pyne, N. Bremner, E. B. Brown, w: Howat, A. C. Sutherland, T. U W. James and Mrs James; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. Milne; committee, Messrs. F. Skelton, J. Warner, A. Stewart, J. Miles, J. Pyne, W. Jarrett, H. G. Warren, W. Smith, L. Knowles, Alan Stewart and B. Skelton; hon. auditor, Mr H. O. Garaway.
The band will have Mr W. Jarrett as conductor, Mr Ken Jarrett as assistant conductor, Mr C. Ranby as drum major, Mr Alan Stewart as band' sergeant and Mr G. Skelton as librarian. V
