VISITORS ENTERTAINED
SPORTS EVENTS AT RUATOKI A party of 86 visitors from Huntlyreached Ruatoki on Friday afternoon and were given a traditional welcome by local leaders on their arx’ival in the marae. On Saturday matches with the visitors were played under the auspices of the recently-formed Rugby League, and there were also basketball and hockey games to complete a pleasant weekend of sport. Basketball Results Ruatoki Primary School A beat Huntly Primary School A 9—2. Ruatoki High School A beat Huntly High School A 7—4. Rugby League
School Boys: Huntly High School beat Ruatoki High School 9—6. Third Grade: Huntly High School beat Ruatoki High School 13—0. Scorers for Huntly were T. Paki, S. Roana (tries), B. Berryman and A. Berryman (conversions), W. Aoake (penalty goal). Seniors: A and B match of the Bay of Plenty Rugby League to select players to represent the Bay of Plenty in the Rugby League trial match in Auckland in the near future.
Three men selected to represent the Bay of Plenty Rugby League were: Forwards, M. Tawera (Ruatoki), H. Boynton (Waimana); backs, P. Hohua (Ruatoki). Following is the team for the Tuhoe v Waiotahi match to be played at Waiotahi on Saturday next:— B. Maui; M. Tiqpira, P. Hohua, W. Hohua; T. Marshall, J. Rogers; T. Hohua; W. Haumate, P. Paruru, D. Taihakoa, B. Marshall, J. Rangitane and W. White. Emergency: M. Whitu.
