Importance of Grass Crop

Grass was the Dominion’s greatest crop and gave the cheapest, healthiest and best food,” said Mr J. E. Davies, Instructor in Agriculture, Fields Division, Department of Agriculture, in an address at the Waikato Winter Farm School held recently. There were approximately 34,000,000 acres of grass in New Zealand, said Mr Davies, and half of this area had been sown by man. Other crops in the Dominion totalled less than 2,000,000 acres. In the Waikato County, the total head of stock carried had grown enormously together with an increase in the total area under grass but with a decrease pf the area under other crops.
