BAY TEN-YEAR PLAN

PUBLIC WORKS FOR WHAKATANE

Proposals which the Government is considering for the development of the Bay of Plenty and adjoining areas during the next ten years were explained by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, to representatives of local bodies at Tauranga on Friday.

The Minister emphasised that the proposals described were those whic.fi would require consideration within the period of 10 years ahead, and it was desired that from them, with the assistance of the people who lived in the regions affected, a definite programme of works should be prepared.

Some of the works of course would be put in hand at once. Other works might be excluded after closer examination but there was no work included which we can say positively should not come within the 10-year review. Again, there was no pretence that the plans were complete or perfect in any respect, and there might be other major works not yet brought up which would have to receive' due consideration.
