BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual general meeting of the Whakatane Bowling Club (Inc.) was held in the County Council Chambers on May 27. There was a large attendance of members and Mr P. F. Dixon was in the chair. President’s Report

In his report the president stated that the membership had decreased by nine. The club had net experienced as good a year financially as the previous season and there was an excess of expenditure over income of £2 10s. The balance sheet showed the club to be in a sound financial position. It had been decided at a special meeting to purchase the house property adjacent to the greens. Competitions and Tournaments

A number of all day tournaments had been held, including two Saturday tournaments which had not proved very popular and consequently were not a financial success. The Fourth Easter Tournament proved disappointing in that entries had been low. The tournament had been a great success socially and visitors had commented on the condition of the greens.

Taneatua had won the Annual Shield Competition and were to be congratulated on doing so. Certain days had been set aside for club championships, an arrangement which had proved very successful. Mr Charles Good was to be congratulated on winning the club singles championship and also..for* reaching semi-finals in the Bay of Plenty Championships. The winners of the other events were: Championship Pairs, Messrs. A. C. King and C. W. Good (skip); junior championship, Mr C. Davis; handicap pairs, Messrs. J. Murphy and W. S. Henderson (skip).

In the play for the Forbes and Ferguson Cups Messrs. Merito, McKenzie, Currah and Loane (skip) were successful in retaining the former trophy. Mr Good, though unsuccessful in. the singles play for the latter acquitted himself very well.

The treatment of the greens as recommended by the Stranger report had been carried out and the greens had improved to a large degree.

In conclusion Mr Dixon thanked the committee members; in particular the secretary Mr C. R. Coates, treasurer Mr Good and the greens superintendent Mr Reg Murphy for their support during his term of office.
