FEDERATED FARMERS

DISAPPROVAL VOICED CUTTING UP' OF AUCKLAND PROVINCE The following are the terms of an agreement made by the Dominion Federated Farmers with Auckland Province Federated Farmers. Mr R. W. Dunning, provincial president of the latter body states: “This should clear the air. It should be obvious that those who advocate the cutting up of the Auckland Provincial set-up of the Federated Farmers do so without the approval of Dominion Council.”

Resolutions The following resolutions were passed at the meeting:—

“The Dominion Council of Federated Farmers, having heard an alleged statement to the effect that it is the intention to break up the Auckland Province into a number of smaller Provinces disavows and disapproves of any such intention by the Dominion Council.”

“That this Dominion Council of Federated Farmers pledges itself to do all in its power to implement in letter and in spirit the solemn agreement entered into with the Auckland Provincial Conference, and as a means to this end suggested that it be agreed between . Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Auckland Province) Inc. and Federated Farmers of New' Zealand (Incorporated) that new members on enrolment in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty are to have a free choice as to which body they join.”

“That, provided the Dominion Council agrees to take out all paid organisers in the areas defined—namely, the Waikato and Bay of Plenty—and that no paid organisers whatsoever nor anyone from outside the areas engage in activities or propaganda, from any source in the area—Auckland to do the same— Auckland agrees to pay what they owe to Dominion Office (New Zealand Farmers’ Union and Federated Farmers) and that any other outstanding matters be referred to arbitration. The position to be reviewed at Annual Conference.”

“That ho obstacles be placed in the way of re-adjustments of membership as between the Auckland Province and the Dominion.”

“That" Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Auckland Province) Inc. be authorised to itself employ and control as agents for the Dominion Council four organisers for the next 12 months. Their salaries to be a charge against the Dominion Levies —these organisers to be under the control of the Dominion Council through the Provincial Council in regard to returns and report in the same manner as organisers in other provinces. This arrangement to date as from Monday, May 19, 1947.”
