WOOL STOCK
SATISFACTORY POSITION If present expectations are confirmed the wartime surplus of Dominion wool, which stood at 10,000,000 bales at the close of the war, will have been reduced by more than 60 per cent, at the end of next month. According to advice received last week by the New Zealand Wool Board, the United KingdomWool Disposals, Ltd., expects that its total stock at June 30, will be less than 4£ million bales. The stock at June 30 last year was 5,786,700 bales. Since then 872,876 bales were sold to the end of January last. As 44,000 bales of this quantity was bought by the Joint Organisation, the stock at January 31 was 5,018,400 bales. Programmed sales for the current February-June period are 630,000 to 660,000 bales, from which it is estimated that the Joint Organisation’s stock at June 30, excluding wool which may be bought in during February to June (inclusive) will be between 4,357,000 and 4,387,000 bales. This is expected to comprise about 3,000,000 bales of Australian wool, 1,000,000 bales of New Zealand wool, and the rest South African wool.
