An Enforced Spell The Dink hurdler, Waiting, who was expected in some quarters to race prominently at the Great Northern Carnival was injured while competing in the Waikato Hurdles at Te Rapa, and has now been allotted a _ lengthy spell in order to recuperate.
Classy Acquisitions Trainer F. McManemin has lately added to his team at Ellerslie a yearling filly by Neptune and a gelding of the same age by Bulandshar —Vermeer: With ordinary luck in the training process they will be ready to carry racing colours in the early spring.
One of the Proficient Jumpers On the concluding day of the Waikato meeting that very capable jumper, Gold Spot, led for the greater part of the two miles and a half journey, but then toppled over at the last obstacle but one. It is quite likely that before the winter has far advanced Gold Spot will be well, “in the money.”
Progressive Era It is understood that the Waikato Racing Club intends next season to stage a three-days meeting in May. The stakes will be high, and this means that contestants will line up from all parts of the' Dominion. In Light Work
Trainer J. Farrell, of Stratford, has again taken Beau le Havre in hand. Next season the Beau Repairs representative will be of an age when good horses are right at their best. If Beau le Havre fills the bill in this respect he should have an exceptionally successful season. A Fine Winter Course
The New Plymouth trainer, Horry Dulieu, has transferred his team to Wanganui for the winter months, the course there being of a sandy nature, and better suited for winter training than others in Taranaki.
A Fine Performer Retires Golden Souvenir has been retired from the turf by his Gisborne breeder and owner, Mr E. N. Fitzgerald. Although he failed to strike form in Australia, his turf record is a very fine -on indeed, his stakes totalling £17,580. Page’s Raid
The Dunedin Steeplechaser, Page’s Raid, arrived at Ellerslie last week in view of competing in the Great Northern Steeplechase. The Night Raid representative is a rare stamp of a weight carrying jumper, and is expected to be right in the fight for victory on Monday. At last season’s Grand National meeting Page’s Raid won three steeplechases, one on' each day, so his proficiency as a stayer and jumper has been amply proved.
The Monarch For Hurdling . That fine Wellington performer on the flat The Monarch, is to be a contestant in the Wanganui Century Hurdles. In his work he is being assessed as a jumper.
Jumping Proficiently Gay Fort, winner of the Waikato Steeples is jumping so well at Ellerslie that he is a strong fancy for the Great Northern Hurdles to be decided on Saturday. It is understood that if he runs prominently he will contest the steeplechase on the second day. In the Front Rank
The Dominion’s best hurdler during the summer, and winner of the Rotorua Cup in February, Bright Fox, was sent over the big jumps by contesting the Frankton Steeples. He showed capability over some of the obstacles but jumped rather extravagantly over others. He has not been accepted for in the G.N. Hurdles, but may line up on the following days. A Brilliant Miler
Soneri, a very fine performer of last summer, is again in work at Trentham and may be brought up to Ellerslie for the third day of the Northern meeting. On Easy List
The Bulandshar colt Grand Tourist, expected to be racing prominently during the winter, pulled up lame in his last engagement, and will be allotted a spell.
