THE ETERNAL NOW
Scientists with persistent hope, With telescope and microscope, Search regions far and near to find, The rule to measure Immortal mind, That was and is and ere will be The absolute infinity; Incomprehensible stupendous, Whose material handiworks tremendous, Maker of world’s that were and are, The architect of every star; Farther removed from mortal mind, Than distant landscapes from the blind; Infinitely great infinitesimally small Enough to enter the heart of all, Who will list to the parental call, That with sublime assurance says, So I am with you all, always; Nearer than any earthly tie A present help when trouble’s nigh, The Lord of earth and sea and sky, To whom aeons to come and aeons past, Are periods too brief to last, But human pride and vain desire, And false presumptions that aspire, The heights of knowledge to acquire, From which with scornful pride to scan, And dominate the world of man; To defeat such devastating pride To Bethlehem there once did ride, The chosen Virgin who gave birth, To the future Lord of all the earth; Who rebuked pride with scornful
disdain And suffered for His words the pain, Of Calvary’s shameful cruel cross, His gain was His traducers’ loss; The curse of Calvary remains In all who submit to the chains Of avarice and presumptious pride, And rough shod over other’s ride; Oblivious to the parental call Of Him who marks the sparrow’s fall, Who was and is and is to be, And grants the opportunity, For all who will to enter in, To a fellowship that will begin, To discount the future’s fearsome thrall, Though material worlds in ashes fall; The Pivine author of them all, Whom no mortal dare gainsay, Is the same though all things pass away; To whom every knee is bound to bow, The Almighty and Eternal now. H. SERG'ANT.
