Small Boy’s Escapade

A fine contempt for mundane finance and the laws of the country was shown by a small 'boy in Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, when he emptied a neighbourhood letter box and disposed of cheques totalling well over £4OO, states the Otago ' Daily Times. The owners of the box were two contractors who were expecting cheques for £2OO and £269 respectively. The apparent .nonarrival of the mail started them off on a worried investigation, and the s search led to a boy aged four. With, the casual candour of extreme youth, the boy admitted that he had taken all the mail from the box. He had thrown the letters away after opening them. The cheque for £204 had been found, but the other cheque, together with a letter con- ‘ taining a minor sum for another member of the family, and any other ' mail that might have been in the* box, is missing.
