LATE Cr. BURT
COUNTY MEMBERS’ TRIBUTE OUTSTANDING SERVICE The services rendered to Public Bodies and in particular to the Council by the late Cr. F. Burt were spoken of in high terms at the County Council meeting on Tuesday. The chairman stated that the late councillor’s record-of service on public bodies was unique. --Hi had been a member since the inception of the body in 1900. During the time he had known him (18 years) he had not known Cr Burt to miss a meeting. Matata had lost a champion who would he felt be sadly missed.
Cr McCready mentioned the support Cr Burt had been accorded by his riding. At Hospital and Power Board elections he had received wholehearted support and was always at the “top of the poll.” * Sport
Cr Burt’s activities in the field of sport were also recalled. There had been no keener supporter of rugby in the Bay or perhaps in New Zealand, stated one • Councillor. His interests had also extended to cricket and tennis and in these fields he had been prominent also. As a source of reference regarding events during the old days of the Bay the late Councillor had frequently been consulted. Motion of Condolence It was resolved that the following motion be recorded:— “That the Council convey to Miss Burt its sympathy with her in the passing of her father, a foundation member of this Council—that this Council record its grateful recognition of .the late Cr. Burt’s outstanding record of public service, which service, in spheres, has contributed in no small measure to the progress and development., not only of this district but also of the Bay of Plenty. Those present then stood as a
mark of respect to his memory.
