RUGBY FOOTBALL

SENIOR GAMES PAROA DEFEATS WAIMANA W AIR AKA DEFEATS P.W.D. Two good games resulted from the senior play at the Domain on Saturday. The fast play of the Paroa side proved to be too much for Waimana. The play was for the most part in Paroa territory and the packs were evenly matched. Once the Paroa back line gained possession however they took a lot of stopping and time and again their speedy tactics completely out manoeuvred the red defence. Waimana showed some flashes of good, play too but had to acknowledge defeat at the hands of a better team.

A noticeable feature of Paroa play and one which was frequently commented on by spectators was the selfish handling of the ball by a few players. This feature cost Paroa a few points. This form of play will have to be “dumped” before Saturday as Paroa will have to be at their best to put up a showing against United.

The P.W:D. team put up a determined fight against a more experienced side and provided a' game well worth watching. The Wairaka team is good and will be even better yet. P.W.D., to judge from their play on Saturday are rapidly approaching Jorm and in a short time will no doubt attain a good position amongst the other teams. PAROA 42, WAIMANA 6

From the kick off Waimana .carried play into Paroa territory. There it stayed for some time until Paroa took control and dashed towards the red goal. Hona forced but the kick missed.

Paroa 3, Waimana 0.

Dodd, playing his usual good game broke away in possession shortly after. He forced and converted the try himself. Paroa 8, Waimana 0.

Play once more swung into Paroa territory. An infringement by a Paroa player occurred and D. Boynton took three points from a free kick in front of the goal posts. Paroa 8, Waimana 3.

Ranapia secured a further three points for Paroa and Dodd’s kick missed.

Paroa 11, Waimana 3.

A free kick for offside play was taken by Dodd. Play at the time was in Waimana ground and the ball sailed over.

Paroa 14, Waimana 3

Wharewera followed through a movement by Paroa which took the ball almost to the Waimana line. When the time came for the player in possession to pass out Wharewera was one the spot and dived over.. Hona converted.

Paroa 19, Waimana 3

Paroa backs received the ball from a line out and moved down towards the Waimana line. Ratahi scored between the posts and Hona once more converted. Paroa 24, Waimana 3. From a scrum on his own 25 Ranapia dribbled the ball down to Waimana’s 25, picked it up and forced between the posts. Harawira converted. Paroa 29, Waimana 3. R. Cleland scored between the posts and Harawira converted. Harawira then scored after a dribbling rush from the Paroa 25. The try was unconverted. Paroa 37, Waimana 3.

Boynton added three points to Waimana’s score. The attempt at a conversion failed although the kick was a really good one. Paroa 37, Waimana 6.
