RACING NEWS & VIEWS

Milder Opposition Oddvaals, raced last season by Mr Geo. Lindsay, of Avondale, has been purchased by Mr J. S. Trowbridge of Greymouth. The Vaals—Crooning should easily pay his way on the West Coast where the opposition is much milder than in the Auckland Province. Winterset Improving The Australian representative, Winterset, is now fast moulding into racing shape. He has nothing to learn in respect to jumping, and before long will be ready to gallop and stay with the strongest of his opponents. Re-Commissioned The Defoe colt, Howe, one of the bright lights during the summer, has again re-joined the Trentham track workers, and is again expected to race prominently in due course. The Cornwall Handicap Blanket, by Man’s Pal—Nightdew considered unlucky in the Hawke’s Bay Cup, is a strong southern fancy for the Cornwall Handicap. He is expected to arrive at Ellerslie well before the meeting. _ The English Style Gay Ranee and Hunting Mac, respective winners of the Farewell Hack divisions at Te Rapa, are both trained by J. C. Edmonds, known at Ellerslie as the English trainer. He adopts the Old Country style of training. Gay Ranee is owned by Mr L. Peat, but Hunting Mac, by Hunting Song, is owned by the trainer.
