RED CROSS NEWS

GREEK MEDAL PRESENTED AMUSING INCIDENT AT CEREMONY An interesting little ceremony took place at the meeting of the N.Z. Red Cross Society Executive Committee which Mrs Winstone attended in Wellington last week. Mr C. G. White, 0.8., was presented with the Greek Red Cross in appreciation of the assistance and help given to Greece by the N.Z. Red Cross Society while ivß| White was chairman of the Dominion Executive. The presentation was made by Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, Greek Consul in Wellington, and he was ac- \ companied by Mr Garland, a leader ' of the Greek people in Wellington— Mr Janice, President of the Greek Sub-Centre of the N.Z. Red Cross Society whose two daughters are R.C.V.O.’s, and the Arehimandate of the Greek Church. ‘ ■ Great Gratitude Mr Seddon spoke of the very great gratitude of the Greek people to New Zealand’s timely and gen- * erous assistance, and said-the occasion was unique in that this was the first time the award had been, made to anyone in New Zealand. Mr Garland also spoke briefly of Greek gratitude and the abiding affection of the Greek people for tHeir New Zealand friends. . Faulty Flashlight A news photographer snapped Mr Seddon and Mr White shaking hands ’ after the presentation of the Cross, and the fact that the flash bulb twice refused to function, it was only at the third attempt that he secured' his photograph, created a very light - hearted atmosphere in which the visitors had afternoon tea and chatted with members of the Dominion. Executive.
