MOTORISTS WARNED
PENDING LIGHT CHECK-UP COMMENCING NEXT MONDAY In order to try and put down the mounting list of road fatalities in the Dominion (the majority of which have taken place at night) the Transport Authorities have instituted a Dominionwide check-up on lighting, and other emergencies. This will commence on Monday next (May 28) and will run for three weeks. AIL defaulters will be issued with a T.O.N. and prosecuted. In the event of a Certificate of Fitness being carried the garage responsible will be proceeded against. It is essential to avoid dazzle, and where the beam rises above the horizontal or deflects to the right the owner will be liable. Stringent steps will also be taken against motorists who neglect to dip when approaching an oncoming car. Already there are ten prosecutions awaiting the local court for this type of offence, and more will follow unless the law is strictly adhered to.
The local Transport Officer has expressed the hope that the fullest publicity will be given to the forthcoming check-up, in order that motorists and garage proprietors will be given a warning to take the necessary preventative steps.
