SCHOOL COMMITTEE
MONTHLY MEETING ■GENERAL BUSINESS A meeting of the Whakatane District High School Committee, held in the school on Wednesday night was attended by Messrs. J. Wilson (chair), Duthie (secretary), Clarke (treasurer), W. E. Armstrong, W. Whittaker, G. H. Dainton, H. D. Paterson and F. W. Lysaght. Proposed New School The chairman read the rough outline of a report in the process of being drawn up relating to the advantages of a new building as against additions to the existing one. When completed, stated Mr Wilson, the report would contain figures showing the large increase in the number of pupils over the past three years together with other data such as floor space per pupil etc. Ohope Site The Caledonian Sports area site had been decided on as being more suitable than the intended site. A • letter had been sent to the Education Board and this had been acknowledged. At a. meeting of the Ohope Progress League unanimous approval of the Caledonian site had been expressed- by parents. Finances The treasurer stated that receipts for the year had totalled £1639. The approximate balance on hand was £2OO. Accounts totalling £52 were passed for payment. A letter was received from the Board stating that the annual grant apart from the cleaning grant would be £3OO. Mr Wilson said that the committee would have to proceed carefully in their expenditure especially in view of the fact that a tractor mower at a cost of £167, less the tradein value of £35 on the old machine -had been bought. Visiting Committee Messrs. Whittaker and Paterson were elected visiting committee for the month.
