New Sawmill

Within four to five weeks the South Island’s largest timber mill, in the Balmoral State Forest, will be in production, adding 30,000 board feet of timber a day to the present output in Canterbury, states “The Press.” This will mean an increase of at least 25 per cent, in the output of timber in Canterbury, which is at present estimated at about 23,000,000 feet a year. The Balmoral mill, the most modern in the Dominion, is expected to add at least 6,000,000 feet of pine timber a year. Two hundred to 250 trees a day will be required to feed the mill.
