YOUNG FARMERS
AWAKERI CLUB’S ACTIVITIES
The April meeting of the Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club was held in the supper room of the Awakeri Hall on the Bth of last month with 14 members present.
After the business, Mr N. Carter, Secretary-Manager of the Bay of Plenty and East Coast Herd Improvement Association, gave a very interesting talk on the keeping of the club’s accounts, the benefits of testing, and a report on Mr Ward’s tour of Europe, U.S.A. and England in connection with herd testing and sire survey.
This month’s meeting of the Awakeri Club was held on May 6. The twelve members present gathered before a roaring fire in the supper room. ■ It was proposed and unanimously carried during the general business that the secretary write to the Thornton Y.F.C. congratulating them on their winning of the Efficiency Shield. During the last two months the Awakeri Club has forwarded £2O to the Y.F.C. National War Memorial and three new members have been enrolled.
Upon the close of the business prepared three-minute talks were delivered by six of the club members. The subjects were: Curing of Hides, Peas v Maize as a Market Crop, Eradication of Gorse, Non-stripping, Farm Shelter, Harness. Afterwards, Mr Anderson, Headmaster of the Awakeri School, gave some much-appreciated constructive criticism on the speakers, their subjects and debating in general. This was followed by the usual supper.
