NO PICTORIAL ISSUE
- STAMPS RAISE COMMENT N.Z. SCENES REPLACED Many people buying stamps since the beginning of the month will have noticed that the sales of the pictorial issue have ceased-and instead the stamps bear a picture of the King’s head. Inquiries were made to the postmaster, Mr W. A. Trask, about it, and he gave the following explanation:—- . “It is usual during the reign of a monarch to have an issue of stamps bearing the King’s head and the £d> Id, IM, and 3d denominations in this class have been on sale for some considerable time,” stated Mr Trask. “Had it not been for the war the full set would probably have been issued much earlier during the present reign.
“One of the prettiest stamps is*; sued in the pictorial set was the little used 2|d depicting Mt. Cook with a border of the alpine ice flower (Edelweiss). The 2|-d has been discontinued in further issues owing presumably to the restricted demand for such a denomination. “The pictorial issue was with-, drawn on April 30, but the Peace stamps are still on sale with the ex- j ception of the denominations Bd, 9d and 1/-, stocks of which are exhausted at Wellington and many of- N fices.” Stamps of the Peace issue would still be coming forward from time to time until stocks were exhausted concluded Mr Trask.
