Mrs Shaw gave the thought for the month “Kindness is a language whi£h the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
May 11 being Mothers’ Day members will attend the morning service at the Presbyterian Church. Mrs Metcalfe read a very comprehensive report on the Provincial meeting held at Auckland on March 25. i'
The speaker for the day was Dr. Akel whose subject was “Diet and Good Nutrition.” * ■ ■ \
Dr. Akel divided his subject up into sections such as calories, proteins, carbohydrates and minerals. The speaker dealt fully on each subject, telling from what source came such things as energy, foods and tissue retaining materials so necessary in our every-day life.
Between the ages of 12-17 years, there is very important growth of a child and they need as much as an adult.
People training for sports, need a greater intake of food than people leading a secondary occupation. Climate also played its part as during cold weather there is - a need for more food.
Dr. Akel mentioned that the average adult needs 3000 calories a day, but it is reported that when the All Blacks are in training they have an intake of 8000 calories.
Mrs Metcalfe moved a hearty vote of thanks to Dr. Akel on his very able address.
Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and the singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable meeting to a close.
