Unusual Pet
One night last week the- writer was visiting a farm •in the district and met This female is a small but very domesticated black pig. She occupies a box in the corner of the kitchen, a box containing a hot water bottle and a layer of straw. On the coldest of cold nights Alberta sleeps in warmth and comfort. She was rescued from the sty when it was found that her mother was lacking in maternal affection towards her offspring. Alberta, or “Porky” as she is sometimes called, made rapid growth on a diet of warm milk taken at regular hours. She soon got to know where her meals came from and now when the worms begin to bite the fact is signified by a chorus of unladylike grunts from Alberta’s box. Plans for Alberta’s future are very vague at present. As she grows up she will be deprived of her childhood pleasures such as the box in the kitchen and the hot water bottle no doubt and eventually will have to be sent out to face the cruel world on her own.
