WHAKATANE CLUB SATURDAY’S PLAY A Four-ball Bogey competition was played on the Whakatane finks on Saturday in perfect weather. There was some good'scoring for so early in the season and, consequently a few reductions in handicaps. The winners were Dr. Akel and N. Ducker 5 up, on a count back from I. A. Wylds and L. M. Roach. R. Pattison and A. Bridger 3 up, J. Stone and M. Stubbs 2 up, K. Milne and D. Wylie 2-up, P. Campbell and N. Hockin 2 up. Delay in starting through players not being available at the last minute made it impossible for some players to finish before darkness fell, Matches may be played at any time from 9 a.m. onwards on Saturdays and players would do well to arrange with their partners and opponents to start earlier whenever possible. If some of the field could even get way, at noon it would be more pleasant for all concerned. If the players themselves do not make some effort to relieve the crowding at the first tee at 1 p.m., each Saturday the Match Commiteee will have no option but to introduce a timed starting schedule. Much time can also be saved by smarter movement along the fairways and from the green to the nekt tee. / Clarke fe and Reynolds Cups Next Saturday the first rounds of the Clarke and Reynolds Cups will commence—match play on handicap—to be played in four formation. Any pair may join another pair on arrival at the course and get away smartly, and any pair wishing to play earlier in the may do so.
