SHOOTING ACCIDENTS

WITH the shooting season just one week old, the newspapers reveal a crop of fatalities which reflects the greatest discredit upon the sporting fraternity in an out-of-doors country such as ours. Two young lives have been lost in this very district, and in both cases the primary cause appears to have been sheer carelessness. We say this without intending to hurt any feelings or to detract from the tragedy which surrounds each fatality, but rather with a view to urging upon responsible organisations to take such steps to ensure that all persons using firearms are thoroughly conversant with the ordinary care and safeguards which should be exercised.
