Wanganella Rumours

Rumours have been current that the liner Wanganella has been reliquished by the owners to the. underwriters for disposal, because of the long-delayed repair work and the uncertainty regarding the restoration project, states a Wellington correspondent. It is stated at the Huddart Parker Company that nothing had been heard of the suggestion, and that the company was interested in having the repairs effected as promptly as possible. The rumour is not new. It was first heard within two days of the cessation of the repair work on February 20. The Wanganella has been fated to be the centre of rumours ever since she stranded on Barrett’s Reef, and the position appears not' to have changed since she entered the floating dock. There have, for example, been rumours of her sale to a shipping company in New Zealand. Simultaneously, there have been reports of her sale to Chinese shipping interests. / *
