CORRESPONDENCE
Sir,—After reading of the glorious performance of the Boys’ Band Jf at the Te Aroha contest, which should make all the people in Wha- , katane very very proud of these young boys who have worked so hard to bring about the results which we have seen, I noted Mr Canning’s remark about the Borough Council grant of £2O which I agree is not enough. But if this is a Citizens’ Band then why not ask the citizens to pay for it? Surely if we can have boys trained almost to perfection as a Band, then I consider that it is up to every one to to make it more easy and to give them more encouragement by seeing to it that they get all the support that is required. I take this opportunity of suggesting a way I am sure will not cause offence. I suggest having cards printed and ,\ giving one to every householder who will be asked to subscribe sixpence per month. If we would show our appreciation in this manner then we could say with pride “Our Boys’ Band” and it would give both the boys and their leader more encouragement to gain more laurels and we would have good music at three half penny’s per week. (Cheap - music). -- Yours etc., G. WILSON.
