RECORD FOR YEAR
BUILDING IN TAURANGA VALUE OF OVER £127,000 “A record was established during the year ended March 31, 1947, for the number of building permits issued to erect buildings and the total value of building construction works for which permits were granted,” stated the Borough Inspector (Mr H. L. Potter) when reporting to the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council. A total of 133 building permits were issued during the year, the value of the work being £127,404.
Apart from the tempo of builcfing operations being retarded as a result of irregularity of supply of materials, the figure would have been considerably higher had not a number of projects been disapproved by the Building Controller’s Department, said the inspector.
During March, he added, eleven building permits were granted to erect six dwellings, two additions to dwellings, a workroom, an addition to business premises and one outbuilding. The total estimated cost of these works was £9757, and permit fees amounted to £45 .
