Straying Stock Nuisance
"Can't something be done to put a stop to straying stock on our roads," asked Cr Leslie at the meeting of the Whakatane County Council yesterday. "Cannot the penalties be made so heavy that it won't pay to "graze cattle on the road. At the present time it is quite a cheap proposition but a neighbour of mine recently struck two cows on our road and damaged his car. I know its difficult for the inspector to be able to be everywhere but I think we should press for heavier fines." The chairman said that a recommendation had already gone forward requesting an increase in droving costs and impounding fees.
