WIRE FOR FARMS

POSSIBLE USE OF ALUMINIUM The shortage of wire supplies for all farm purposes is likely to continue for some considerable time, according to a statement issued by Federated Farmers of N.Z. The organisation advises its members to plan well ahead for future requirements, and to place early orders for stock needed.

Cordage will have to be used as a wire substitute for baling purposes and as local mills are likely to experience an additional heavy demand, orders for such should also be placed immediately, the statement continues. Mills will then be able to plan their production schedules accordingly. Moves are on foot to import some quantities of aluminium wire. This is likely to be expensive but it is one alternative to no wire at all. Federated armers will make no recommendation or pass any comment on this type of wire. Its choice is a matter for users to decide themselves. A circular will be sent to districts explaining full details of the wire position.
